Lucas Moura highlights what Spurs cannot keep doing in matches
Tottenham Hotspur threw away a two goal lead for the second time this season after another difficult evening in the Champions League.
Olympiacos had enjoyed the better of the opening proceedings and could consider themselves unlucky to have gone behind.
Harry Kane was foolishly tripped in the penalty area by Yassine Meriah with referee Gianluca Rocchi having no hesitation in pointing to the spot.
The England international emphatically dispatched his penalty and Lucas Moura doubled the lead just minutes later with a powerful effort.
Spurs were once again unable to keep a clean sheet until the half time break when the impressive Daniel Podence placed his shot beyond Hugo Lloris.
The home side levelled on 54 minutes when they were awarded a penalty of their own when Jan Vertonghen made contact with Mathieu Valbuena, the former French international dusted himself off and comfortably dispatched his effort past his compatriot to send the Olympiacos fans into a frenzy.
Lucas Moura admitted after the match that it was a difficult match to play in but insisted that his side must focus on improving their concentration after letting another lead slip.
Moura told UEFA: “It was a very hard game. It’s difficult to play here. Their fans pushed Olympiacos every time. We achieved the most difficult part and scored two goals, but afterwards we made some mistakes and conceded two goals. We cannot do this, we must improve in that. We must keep our concentration for 90 minutes. Still it’s important to get one point here, but we need to do better than this.
“I hope that we can make it to the final again and, this time, win it! But it’s another season, another chapter, it’s different from last season. We need to work. I believe in my team-mates and our team. We must cut on the errors we made in the last few games, make the most of our opportunities, keep the intensity and the concentration.”
Opinion
After making it to the final last season, it is disappointing to see that the players have not learned from the experience and were unable to grind out the victory.
We were once again guilty of trying to play too narrow and the expansive game we displayed against Palace was nowhere to be seen.
