Wales 43 Georgia 14: Dragons bag bonus point before half-time in World Cup opener as Warren Gatland’s men send message to Pool D rivals Australia
JUSTIN TIPURIC put in a monumental shift as Wales bagged the bonus point before half-time in their World Cup opener against Georgia.
The Dragons secured all five points by racing into a 29-0 lead – at one point reaching a point a minute – in a totally one-sided first 40 minutes in Toyota City.
Jonathan Davies struck in the third minute before Tips went over for Wales’ second with winger Josh Adams getting the third on the 19-minute mark.
Liam Williams got in on the act with Dan Biggar’s boot giving Wales a huge first-half lead.
But they were slow after the break and allowed Georgia far too many breaks.
Shalva Mamukashvili and beefy forward Levan Chilachava both scored tries in the second half.
Tomos Williams’ touchdown came in the middle of those to mean the result was not in doubt – especially after George North’s late try.
But Warren Gatland will tell his men – sweating buckets in the humid climate – to ramp up the intensity ahead of their Pool D crunch against Australia on Sunday.
More to follow.
