Sunderland owner Stewart Donald slams sick fans who sung vile chant about Gary Speed
SUNDERLAND owner Stewart Donald has slammed supporters who sang a sick song about Gary Speed.
A video of a group of Black Cats fans chanting about the late Newcastle midfielder’s suicide has been shared on social media.
There have been calls for the supporters involved to be banned from the Stadium of Light for life.
And Donald condemned the footage and has vowed to take action.
The Sunderland supremo tweeted: “It is shocking.
“I have seen it and I am absolutely gutted.
“It is unacceptable, unjustifiable, wrong, hurtful and embarrassing.
“Gary Speed’s poor family deserve support and understanding and to abuse such a tragic event is simply wrong and sick.
‘DISGUSTING’
“I’m sorry and I’m on it.”
Speed played for Sunderland’s rivals Newcastle for six years.
And fans from around the country blasted the “disgusting” chants about “legend” Speed – saying they went “far beyond footballing rivalry”.
One posted: “I hope the supporters club are calling for a lifelong ban on anyone identified singing this,
bringing shame on a great club and fans. LFC Fan.”
