Mallory Pugh nominated for Week 23 Goal of the Week award

Boyds, Md., (9/23/19) – Spirit forward Mallory Pugh has been nominated for the NWSL Goal of the Week Award for the strike she delivered in the 80th minute against the Chicago Red Stars. 

Spirit defender Sam Staab delivered a long through pass to Pugh, who was streaking down the left side of the field. Pugh outran a Chicago defender, took a single touch around Red Star goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, and skillfully placed the ball into the open net.

The goal was Pugh’s first of the season, and she’s recorded a goal and an assist for the Spirit in her last two games.
