TRANSPORTATION COMMISSIONER, SPECIAL ADVISER VISIT LAGBUS
Due to its accessibility and being the major link with other transport systems the Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening land transportation while improving more on other systems in order to achieve an effective intermodal transport system in the State.
The State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladehinde disclosed this today during his working visit to the Lagos Bus Services Limited Head Office at Ilupeju-Oshodi to have first-hand information the company’s operations.
He said with an estimated population of about 25 million people, land transportation has remained the main mode for the movement of man, goods and services in the State and advocated for an improvement in the services rendered by the company.
Oladehinde stated further that in achieving the THEMES mandate of the present administration especially the first alphabet “T” that falls within the jurisdiction of the company, there must be a synergy of work within the Transportation family and promised to use his experience in the industry to improve on the mandate of the State government.
Similarly, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Oluwatoyin Olayinka, urged the organisation to always consider a sociological factor in its policies, adding that any technology that would be introduced should consider the sociological impact on the citizens to avoid wastage and non-compliance.
Responding, the Lagos Bus Services Limited Managing Director, Mr. Idowu Oguntona assured the team of the company’s readiness to serve, adding that the LBLS presently has 800,000 ridership monthly with about 120 operational buses operating on Berger-TBS- Leventis-Obalende-Berger; Berger-Oshodi-Berger; Berger-Ikeja-Berger; Oshodi-TBS-Obalende-Oshodi and Ikeja-Alausa-Ikeja.
He said other routes are Oworo-Berger; Oworo-Oshodi; Oworo-TBS; Oworo-Obalende; Alapere-TBS; Alapere-Oshodi; Tollgate-TBS, Park and Ride (Tollgate) to TBS and Tollgate-Oshodi.
Oguntona revealed that the company will soon double the number of vehicles in its operational fleet to accommodate more routes so that more Lagosians will enjoy the services of the company in line with the goals of the present administration on traffic and transportation.
