Derry City v Cork City- Fri 27th September – KO 7.45pm – Brandywell

SSE Airtricity League

Match Sponsor: Devenish

The Candystripes will play their game in hand against Cork City at the Brandywell on Friday night (7.45) knowing that a win will take them above Bohemians and into third place in the table with just four matches left.

The battle for those precious European places had looked to be between Bohs and Derry, however St Pats are now right back in the frame as well, and Declan Devine knows that results are all that matter now.

“We have worked so hard to get ourselves into this position and it’s important that we keep pushing on.”

“There are only five games to go before we have a long break.”

“It’s vital that we’re able to look back on the season with no regrets and be able to look forward to 2020 with real positivity.”

“Overall we’re happy going into the match but we’ve seen recently that the later rounds of fixtures can often throw up surprises.”

“We need to be on our guard and ensure that we give ourselves every possible chance of finishing the season strongly.”

Team News

The Derry boss looks set to be without Jamie McDonagh through suspension while Darren Cole underwent surgery on a ruptured ACL on Wednesday.

“Jamie will obviously be a big loss and everyone at the club wishes Darren a speedy recovery. He will get the best of recovery care, but his presence on the pitch will be missed. He has been brilliant for us this season.”

Devine also confirmed that Darren McCauley would continue to be monitored having come off against Dundalk with concussion.

On the plus side however, both Greg Sloggett and Conor Davis took full part in training this week.

“Greg is obviously a key part of our side so it’s great that he is doing well while Conor has looked really sharp and is desperate to play.”
