Love Island stars ditch the make-up for a barefaced photo to show off their natural beauty

ACTRESS Billie Piper won praise for a make-up free photoshoot – but how would the girls of Love Island cope?

After spending this summer watching the sun-kissed reality stars trowel on the mascara and lippy, Lynsey Hope asked four to try a barefaced photo.

Here is what they thought of the result.

Warning: A whole bottle of make-up remover was used in this process.

Anna Vakili, 29

ANNA, a single former pharmacist from Bayswater, West London, says: “People think us Islanders are all about make-up and say we are fake.

“I wear a lot of make-up when I go out – lashes, liner, eyeshadow, contour, the works. But, at the same time, I feel very comfortable without it, too.

“Generally I’m quite confident about how I look. I’ve learnt to embrace who I am, the good bits and the bad.

“Even so, I was incredibly nervous about doing a photoshoot with no make-up.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d do a shoot completely barefaced.

“But I’m really happy with the photos. Doing this shoot has given my confidence a huge boost.

“I want to show I can be confident without my make-up mask and show other girls it’s OK to not wear it sometimes.

“People will love you all the same.

“If they don’t, they’re not worth knowing.”

Belle Hassan, 21

SINGLE Belle, from Orpington in Kent, says: “When I go out I cake on the make-up. I’m a trained make-up artist, so it’s always been a passion of mine.

“I love smokey eyes, ombre lips, contouring, the works. But people are always saying I wear too much and that I look tacky.

Belle admits she likes to cake-on the make-up when she goes out

“I get called ugly on social media. It doesn’t bother me now, I’m quite thick-skinned.

“I hope this shows people that there’s a lot more to me than make-up. It’s my face, so I’ll do what I want with it.

“I was keen to do this photoshoot as I think it’s important for young girls to see it’s OK not to wear make-up all the time, embrace your natural self.

“If you do want to do yourself up on a night out, great.

“But it’s fine to leave the house barefaced sometimes, too.

“I felt really proud of my barefaced photos.

“My skin looked fresh and clean and it made me think, perhaps, I can get away with less foundation sometimes.”

Harley Brash, 20

FORMER estate agent Harley is single and lives in Wandsworth, South West London.

She says: “Society is so image-focused. We see these perfect celebrities and everyone feels they have to live up to such high standards.

Harley wants to show that she’s just a normal girl, despite what people see on social media

“Girls especially feel pressured to look great all the time and people are quick to criticise.

“Social media means people can judge you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“It’s because of that I wanted to do this shoot. I’m really keen to show I’m just a normal girl.

“You can be in the public eye and not wear lashings of make-up all the time.

“I don’t tend to wear a great deal anyway, so I wasn’t expecting the pictures to be a great shock, though I was terrified of going without so much as a dab of concealer.

“All girls should be happy with the skin they are in. Who knows what life has in store?

“It’s not worth getting upset about a few wrinkles or a couple of spots.”

Joanna Chimonides, 22

JOANNA is a single recruitment consultant from Cheshunt, Herts.

She says: “I don’t wear tons of make-up but it’s rare you would see me without any.

Joanna says wearing a bit of make-up makes her feel ready to start the day

“Even if I’m just popping to the supermarket, I put on a little bit of foundation and some mascara. It makes me feel I’m ready to start the day.

“I loved doing this shoot. I wanted to show I was a normal, everyday girl.

“It’s OK not to be smothered in foundation all the time and a few spots won’t scare anyone off.

“I want to inspire other girls to be confident without make-up, too.

“I don’t look perfect. You can see my eyebags in some of the pictures. But we need to embrace what we look like, the good and bad.

“I laughed when I saw the pictures, I’m not used to seeing myself so clean-faced.

“There were things I didn’t like about my face without all the slap but I also felt I had a lot to be thankful for. I didn’t look too bad.”
