Yin defeats Roslie by split decision for WBC silver female title
The last 13 months or so have been huge for Chinese female fighter Fan Yin (9-0, 2). Yin showed her ability just over a year ago in Japan, when she beat Yuko Henzan. Today Yin built on that victory by over-coming Nurshahidah Roslie (14-3, 11) in Singapore, to claim the WBC Silver Female Super Bantam title.
From the opening round it was clear that Yin was the more natural boxer and the speedier fighter. She moved around the ring smartly, using her footwork to lure Roslie in before landing her left hook and getting out of range. Time and time against Roslie rushed in and ate a left hook before being able to get off anything of note herself. The little success Roslie did have was a single shot here and their but nothing consistent.
After 4 rounds we had the WBC open scoring kick up, and the scores were announced as being 40-36, 40-36, and 38-38. Although the names were't attached to the scores it was hard to see them being anything but in favour of Yin who had looked fantastic.
Knowing she was down seemed to inspire Roslie who began to up her work rate and pressure, and she began to land her right hand with some frequency as she clawed her way back into the bout. The middle rounds were all much more competitive than the early ones, and Roslie clawed her way back into the contest well, but Yin wasn't going to roll over and let the local take over the bout.
The open scoring kicked in against after round 8, and 2 of the cards were really close, 75-73 one way and 75-73 the other way. Thee third card was clear, in favour of Yin. This left the bout on a knife edge and both fighters knew it. Sadly for local fans Roslie's pressure couldn't get the success it needed in round 9, as Yin's movement and cleaner punching shone. Roslie did however bounce back excellently in the 10th round with some big right hands as she hunted the knockout.
After the scheduled 10 rounds we wen't to the score cards which were 99-92, Yin, 96-94, Roslie and, 96-94 Yin, to give the Chinese fighter her biggest win to date.
