‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 28: Here are the Movie Night routines, which are very, very Latin-heavy

0

Week 3 is Movie Night on “Dancing with the Stars,” so you can expect a lot of familiar tunes and, um, it turns out a lot of Latin dances.

The remaining 11 couples will perform to songs from the celebrities’ favorite movies (read: whatever songs ABC were able to clear) and have apparently given ballroom dances the shaft (ABC calls the couples’ dances their “dance choice”). Here are the routines for Monday night:

Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko: tango
Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten: rumba
Sailor Brinkley-Cook and Val Chmerkovskiy: tango
Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber: rumba
Kate Flannery and Pasha Pashkov: quickstep
Karamo and Jenna Johnson: jive
Ray Lewis and Cheryl Burke: cha-ha
Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson: rumba
Lamar Odom and Peta Murgatroyd: cha-cha
Sean Spicer and Lindsay Arnold: cha-cha
James Van Der Beek and Emma Slater: rumba

SEE ‘Dancing with the Stars’ judges were divided over Karamo’s quickstep: Can he ever make Len happy?

Have you ever seen so many rumbas in your life? Also very weird that we don’t have a waltz or Viennese waltz in sight, which are usually staples of Movie Night since a lot of ballads work well for those dances. But there’s only three ballroom routines here total, and two of them are the same one.

In keeping with its secrecy theme this season, ABC did not reveal the songs for each couple, but teased some of the ones that will be featured: Wilson Philips’ “Hold On,” “Here We Go Again” from “Mamma Mia!”, Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman,” Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5,” Selena’s “Dreaming of You,” Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow” and Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” Of course they’re doing “Shallow.” They’re probably kicking themselves last year for not doing Movie Night.

Elsewhere in the hour, we’ll get glimpses of the “Dancing” backlot and the couples will walk through three movie sets en route to the stage. There will also be a “special ‘Star Wars’ moment,” because, you know, synergy.
