The Philadelphia Union took on two appointments this week: the New York Red Bulls and the San Jose Earthquakes. Philadelphia was able salvage 3 points out of the possible 6 toward the MLS Cup Playoff Race.
The first game of the week was this past Sunday, in New York. The Union lost this game 2-0. Even though they lost this game, fans voted the defenders as the top players for this game with Jack Elliott getting the most points with an average rating of 3.81 out of 5 and a total of 126 rating points. Kai Wagner with 3.75 and Mark McKenzie with 3.48 follow behind Jack. Ray Gaddis is also in the top 4 with a 3.15.
At the bottom of the table we will find midfielders Brenden Aaronson (2.48) and Marco Fabian (2.54). The creative midfielders were shut down for this game and the fans let them have it in the ratings.
For the second game of the week, The Union traveled to San Jose to take on the Eathquakes. The Union went down in this game early and appeared that the fight for first place was over, until Philadelphia turned it on in the second half. The Union won the game 2-1, keeping the hopes for first place alive and a first round bye for the playoffs.
The fans voted Kacper Pryzbylko the man of the match for Wednesday night. Kacper received an average rating of 3.9 out of 5 and a total of 82 in rating points. Kacper had the game winning header Wednesday night and was the hero of the night.
Aurelien Collin with an average rating of 2.14 and Andrew Wooten at 2.42 were at the bottom of the table. Collin had a rough game and almost gave up a penalty kick to San Jose at the end of the game which would have given the Earthquakes the opportunity to tie up the game. Luckily VAR ruled in our favor Wednesday night and saved Philadelphia and Collin.
The Union play Columbus today to keep their first place hopes alive. New England Revolution has to beat NYCFC and the Union have to beat Columbus to keep the dream alive. Both games are at 5 p.m. Tune in after the game to vote for your favorite player of the match.
