“That is in the past” – Harry Kane dismisses suggestion about Tottenham

Harry Kane has said comments Mauricio Pochettino made about different agendas in the Tottenham squad are “in the past” after Saturday’s hard-fought victory over Southampton.

Following last week’s embarrassing Carabao Cup defeat at League Two side Colchester United, Pochettino suggested some Spurs players have differing individual ambitions, likely referring to those who almost left the club in the summer transfer window.

The likes of Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen, Danny Rose and Victor Wanyama were all heavily linked with exits, while Jan Vertonghen was left out of the team at the beginning of the campaign because of uncertainty surrounding his future.

But Kane, who struck the winner at the weekend, believes the nature of the win against Southampton – the hosts had 10 men for most of he game after Serge Aurier’s red card – shows there is a sense of togetherness in the squad.

Asked if the various agendas Pochettino mentioned actually exist, Kane said (via the Daily Mail): “No. I think this performance speaks for itself in terms of everyone fighting for the badge.

“That (comment) is in the past. All I can say is that I am proud of all my team-mates.”

It was certainly a timely result for Tottenham ahead of Tuesday’s crunch Champions League clash with German giants Bayern Munich. Spurs should go into the game with a bit more confidence and fighting spirit than if they had failed to beat Southampton.
