MAISIE Williams’ Marvel film The New Mutants gives a major nod to her role on Game of Thrones.

The 22-year-old rose to fame as Arya Stark in the hit HBO series which came to an end earlier this year.

Maisie will next be seen portraying Rahne Sinclaire/Wolfsbane in the film, which is set for release next year.

Comic book fans will know that writer Chris Claremont and artist Bill Sienkiewicz dropped an Easter Egg into the series called War Children.

In one scene, Wolfsbane – a shapeshifter – can be seen in bed reading A Game Of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.

The fact that Maisie is now playing that character brings the moment full circle, and will no doubt be satisfying for Game of Thrones, X-Men and comic book fans alike.

Maisie’s character Wolfsbane is a founding member of the New Mutants, and the film will focus on five young mutants who are being held prisoner in a secret facility.

Maisie previously revealed how, despite the huge sets and sequences filmed for Game of Thrones, she was still taken aback by the scale of the production on a superhero movie.

She told Metro: “It was kind of crazy, It was such a huge set and huge budget.

“Of course Game Of Thrones is the same, but we spend all of our money on the show rather than the set, if you know what I mean.

“So there was all this crazy kind of catering, and amazing food, and you have your own little chair with your name on it.

“And it really felt like I was part of the movies. ‘It was really exciting, and I am really, really happy with the film. I just can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

However the film’s release has been pushed back on a number of occasions, and is now slated for April 2020.
