Dad’s shock as thieves speed off with son, 5, in car in Gumtree robbery gone horribly wrong
A DAD feared for his son’s life when a couple who were “test-driving” his car sped off with his five-year-old-boy in the backseat.
The unnamed Australian man was selling his blue Subaru WRX on Gumtree when it was stolen by a couple posing as buyers – the horrified dad says he feared for his boy’s life – but the little lad said it was “fun.”
According to South Australia Police a man and woman in their 30s turned up at the seller’s house to request a test drive before carrying out what cops have branded a “bizarre theft.”
The woman initially drove the vehicle, before the couple requested to swap – as the man exited the car to swap seats they sped off, still with his five-year-old boy strapped into the backseat.
It’s unclear whether the couple were aware that the boy was still in the car at the time.
The terrified dad quickly contacted police, before pursuing the stolen vehicle in another car.
He says he discovered his son around 300 metres away, having been dropped off on the side of the road, completely unharmed.
The father says he feared for his son’s life but little boy seemed to take the ordeal in his stride.
His dad said: “He thought it was just fun or a joke, maybe because he’s little and doesn’t understand.”
Cops are still yet to track down the stolen car, or the couple.

Police Commissioner Grant Stevens told Australian media the couple’s behaviour was “a disgrace”.
“It’s very concerning and I think it goes to the nature of the people involved that they have no regard for the welfare of [the] child or the parents.”
Police are searching for the stolen blue Subaru WRX and the two suspects, described as as a bald, tattooed caucasian man, and a blonde woman wearing a white jumper.
