Young Boys 2 Rangers 1: Alfredo Morelos goal isn’t enough as Gers fall to late defeat in Switzerland

RANGERS were defeated by a late goal in the Europa League tonight as Young Boys grabbed the three points.

The Light Blues were aiming to continue on their fine form from the opening week of the competition where they defeated Feyenoord at Ibrox.

Young Boys had the first real chance of the game when Nsame sent his effort just wide of Allan McGregor’s goal.

But it was Steven Gerrard’s side who opened the scoring late in the first half when Alfredo Morelos fired past the keeper after rolling his marker.

The Colombian celebrated in style as he ran to fellow Gers striker Jermain Defoe.

With the goal coming in the 44th minute it was the perfect introduction to Steven Gerrard’s half-time team talk.

But it was the home side who started the second half the brighter as they equalised shortly after the interval.

A low cross was turned into the back of the net by Roger Assale’s shin.

Gers were then dealt a blow as Ryan Jack limped off the park injured.

His replacement Greg Stewart had the ball in the back of the net, however he had already been flagged for offside.

Gerrard’s side though ended up heading home with no points as Fassnacht netted an injury time winner to take all three points for the Swiss side.
