England 25-man squad announced – Three Spurs lads make it – Two miss out
Sky Sports has announced the England 25-man squad for upcoming fixtures versus the Czech Republic and Bulgaria (Sky Sports News). Gareth Southgate’s team includes four Chelsea players, and three each from Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton.
Danny Rose returns to the England setup. He’s started eight games for Tottenham this season across the Premier League and Champions League, and will be looking to build on his 28 England caps (transfermarkt).
Harry Winks has made just three appearances for England in his career, but has established himself as a Tottenham regular by starting all nine Premier League and two Champions League matches (transfermarkt).
Harry Kane also has nine Spurs appearances this season, and has captained England since earning the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup. His England career includes 41 appearances and 26 goals (transfermarkt).
Notable Tottenham absentees include Dele Alli, Eric Dier. The full team is listed below:
Goalkeepers:
Tom Heaton, Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope
Defenders:
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Chilwell, Joe Gomez, Michael Keane, Harry Maguire, Tyrone Mings, Danny Rose, Fikayo Tomori, Kieran Trippier
Midfielders:
Ross Barkley, Fabian Delph, Jordan Henderson, James Maddison, Mason Mount, Declan Rice, Harry Winks
Forwards:
Tammy Abraham, Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling, Callum Wilson
Spurs Web Opinion:
No surprise for Kane. Winks has played well this season and deserves his place. Rose has been decent at best, but his experience is valuable. Dier isn’t shocking, as other than the start versus Colchester City, he has just one substitute appearance on the year. Dele is the most interesting choice. He has played on and off for Tottenham, but has contributed little in terms of end product.
