[Tennis] Mic Moore named new head tennis coach
MONTREAT, N.C. – Mic Moore has been selected as Montreat College's new head men's and women's tennis coach, athletic director Jose Larios announced on Thursday.
Coach Moore joins the Cavaliers from Union College where he spent four years as a member of the Bulldogs tennis team and most recently two years as an assistant coach for the program.
"I am excited to welcome Coach Moore to the Cavalier family," said Larios. "He brings tremendous energy and networking as it pertains to recruiting. His missional alignment and passion for building a high-character and highly competitive team made him rise above the other candidates. I'm eager to see his accomplishments within our tennis program."
The Barbourville, Ky. native spent four years studying mathematics at Union College before immediately jumping into his first coaching role with the Bulldogs in 2017. After just one summer of recruiting for the program, he grew the women's team from five student-athletes to 14 and the men's team from 15 to 24.
In his first season coaching, the women's program went from being unranked to No. 17 in the country and finished as the No. 13 team his second season. The men's team went from No. 17 his first year to No. 9 his second year.
In his time at Union, Coach Moore coached three All-Americans and seven NAIA Scholar-Athletes. The men's program won an ITA regional singles title and the women won an ITA regional doubles title under his assistance. He also had national tournament appearances both years.
"I'm blessed beyond measure for the opportunity given to me by Coach Larios and Montreat College," said Coach Moore. "I feel that the young men and women on the team are excited to put in the work and that's all any coach could ever ask for. I see a bright future for Montreat tennis and am happy to be a part of the Cav family."
