A century ago, Army troops imposed martial law during strike that helped end 12-hour workday

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the strike organized by the Amalgamated Association of Iron, Steel and Tin Workers that started Sept. 22, 1919, at a time when steelworkers put in 12-hour days six days per week and 24-hour shifts every other week.
