HELENA Bonham Carter has revealed her uncle dated Princess Margaret — who she plays in The Crown.

The actress said “something happened” when he was a Grenadier Guard in Windsor.

Helena, 53, said: “It’s weird, I basically went out with my uncle.” She added: “Uncle Mark escaped as a prisoner in Italy in the Second World War.

They didn’t send him away again, they put him at Windsor and he guarded Princess Margaret an­d Elizabeth.”

Helena, left, added at Cheltenham Literary Festival: “I have photos of them together. They looked dashing and remained good friends.”

Mark Bonham-Carter be- came a publisher, married into the aristocracy and served as Liberal MP for Torrington, Devon.

He was made a life peer in 1986. He was vice-chairman of the BBC and director of the Royal Opera House for 24 years.

Meanwhile Princess Margaret went on to marry Antony ­Armstrong-Jones, made Earl of Snowdon by the Queen in 1960. They divorced in 1978.
