International Rivers: IFC must listen to local demands on Namtu

International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) sponsored consultations on hydropower in Shan State,

Is thought by civil society groups as “a box-ticking exercise” to prepare for dam-building on the Myitnge River basin. It is questionable, that IFC is doing these consultations to do a potential environmental and social impact study of the dam project that is proposed as their aim seems to be promotion of development of these projects that harm ecology and have negative social consequences.
