Report: Spurs planning on hijacking Liverpool’s move for Brazilian star
According to a report in Calcio Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur are planning to hijack Liverpool’s rumoured move for Ajax winger David Neres.
Neres has established himself as a key player for the Dutch giants and was instrumental in their run to the Champions League semi-final last season as well as their Eredivisie triumph.
Liverpool have reportedly kept tabs on the Brazilian for the past couple of seasons and are said to be preparing a big for him (FourFourTwo).
However, it is suggested that Spurs are keen to add to their squad in January after making a poor start to the season. Neres is claimed to be one of the players the club has identified to improve their squad.
The report in FourFourTwo also claims that Spurs fancy their chances of landing the 22-year-old winger as they can offer him regular football, unlike Liverpool.
The former Sao Paulo man has netted three goals in nine appearances so far this season (Transfermarket.com).

This transfer makes little sense for Tottenham as Neres has a very similar profile to Lucas Moura, who is already struggling to get a game at the club despite playing well whenever he is given a chance. Spurs have other areas that are in more urgent need of reinforcements and so it is hard to imagine this happening in January.
