GTA 6 could launch on Sony’s new PS5 next year according to mystery Rockstar Games ‘insider’
THE latest Grand Theft Auto game may come as early as next year, according to the latest leaks.
An “insider” at Rockstar Games, the New York firm behind the series, has claimed the hotly-anticipated game could ship alongside the new PlayStation.

Sony only announced the PlayStation 5 this week in a shock blog post that promised it will ship late next year.
Rockstar has yet to acknowledge it’s making another GTA, but it’s safe to say the game is in the works.
Fans have been baying for a followup to the hugely popular Grand Theft Auto V, which sold 90million copies and has made an estimated £5billion since it was released in 2013.
In lieu of any announcements on GTA 6, fans have turned to mysterious anonymous insiders for scraps of information.
One self-proclaimed insider, @TezFunz2, made a big claim this week about the game’s release date.
They made the comment on Tuesday in the wake of Sony’s announcement that the PlayStation 5 will hit shelves around Christmas 2020.
Writing on Twitter, @TezFunz2 said: “Now that Playstation 5 is launching holiday 2020, I think we can be positive Rockstar next title isn’t coming until 2021 or holiday 2020 if they have enough time to finish it up.”
We don’t know the elusive leaker’s credentials, or how reliable they are, so we’d take this one with a pinch of salt.

But it would make sense for Rockstar to potentially delay the release of the game to fit in with the release dates of new consoles.
Microsoft has already announced it’s releasing Project Scarlett, the followup to the Xbox One, around Christmas 2020.
It would make sense for Rockstar to wait to release GTA 6 so it can develop a version for both the new PlayStation and Xbox.
As @TezFunz2 notes, the games-maker has a bit of a reputation for delaying major titles.
PlayStation releases – what's the history
Here's what you need to know...
- The original PlayStation launched in Europe in 1995
- This was followed by the PlayStation 2 in the year 2000
- The PlayStation 3 arrived over half a decade later, in 2006
- Then gamers had to wait a further seven years for 2013’s PS4 launch
- Sony has announced it will release the PS5 around Christmas 2020
The latest GTA 6 rumour is far from the first to emerge about Rockstar’s new game.
Back in May, a leaker claimed players would take the role of a drug lord in the series’ latest instalment, which takes place in three locations from previous games.
It’s also been claimed that gamers will take the role of two characters, one female and one male.
All speculation for now, and we can only cross our fingers that Rockstar gives us something concrete over the next few months.
