I have a feeling that there could be a few that would run similar times. That's why this is a bit of an irrelevance. Competitive athletics has to be consistent.
Sorry, could you name the 'few' runners that could do something similar? I can think of one other in the history of the marathon, and even then it's a very long shot.
I still can't establish whether the pacemakers could join the race at any stage. I guess they must have been able to. If not there are 7 runners in this picture who could do something similar.

the point being, if people can join just to shield him then why bother having people at all. Just use some sort of mechanical windbreak.
They were rotating 40+ pacemakers, in large part because very few people in the world could run that pace for 30k, let alone a full marathon.
