[Shooting Sports] Shotgun Sports Places 4th at Hastings
Doane Shutgun Sports competed at the Hastings Invitational on Saturday and Sunday in Grand Island, Nebraska. The event was hosted at Heartland Shooting Park. The Tigers posted a team score of 2,210 and finished 4th out of 11 teams. In total, 164 shooters competed in the event.
In the Skeet discipline, Doane posted a score of 454. Jack Olsen (SO/Frederick, Colo.) led the way with a 94. Katie Petersen (SR/Fremont, Neb.) posted a 92 and Morgan Psyk (SR/Albertville, Minn.) added a 91. Trevin Alberts (SO/Lincoln, Neb.) and JJ Iltz (JR/Valleyford, Wash.) rounded out the Top 5 with scores of 90 and 87, respectively.
In Sporting Clays, the Tigers notched a total of 373. Olsen led the way with an 80 with Jared Crouse (SR/Haigler, Neb.) posting a 79. Mason Buzzard (SR/Trenton, Ill.) and Alberts each had scores of 72 and Iltz finished with a 70.
A new discipline, Wobble Trap, was competed in at the event. It is not a sanctioned discipline by the Amateur Trapshooting Association. Doane finished with a team score of 467, led by Buzzard with a score of 97. Iltz posted a 95, Stephen MacNeal (FR/Weatherly, Pa.) scored a 93, and Olsen finished with a 92. Petersen's 90 rounded out the team's scoring.
In Skeet Doubles, Doane posted a 449 score. Petersen led the way with a 93 followed by Buzzard with a 92. Psyk broke 90 targets while Olsen and Iltz broke 88 and 86, respectively.
In American Trap, Psyk posted a score of 96 and was the top female shooter in the discipline. A trio of Tigers, Buzzard, Petersen, and Olsen, posted scores of 93. Alberts broke 92 targets.
Overall, Olsen led the Tigers with a score of 447, tied for 15th. Buzzard tied for 23rd with a score of 440. Petersen was tied for 31st with a score of 436. Iltz posted a 428 total and tied for 41st. Psyk tied for 57th with a score of 423. MacNeal tied for 60th with a 421 total. Alberts broke 412 targets to tie for 68th. Crouse had a 408 total and tied for 74th. Josh Mulinix (FR/Lincoln, Neb.) broke 380 targets to tie for 101st and Bailey Gasseling (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) finished with a 362 to tie for 107th.
The Tigers will return to action in March 2020.
