Highway 84 reopens after Niles Canyon RV fire
ALAMEDA COUNTY — Firefighters and police were at the scene of a blaze sparked by a recreational-vehicle fire Monday afternoon near Highway 84 lanes in Niles Canyon, authorities said.
Shortly after 2 p.m., the California Highway Patrol received word of flames spreading to a hillside near a bridge by the Niles Canyon quarry east of Palomares Road, with at least one witness saying a person was seen near a fully engulfed vehicle.
After closing lanes around 2:25 p.m., Alameda County Fire Department crews worked to set up traffic controls, while Alameda County sheriff’s deputies also responded.
Traffic between Mission Boulevard and Sunol was briefly blocked before police set up one-way controls. No word was immediately available on any injuries or threats to structures.
All lanes reopened around 4:45 p.m.
