EMERYVILLE — A stolen car going more than 100 mph early Tuesday was chased by the California Highway Patrol from San Francisco to Emeryville where it crashed and the driver arrested,  authorities said.

The Hyundai sedan, which turned out to have been stolen  in Alameda, was spotted about 1:34 a.m. Tuesday speeding on Highway 101 near Cesar Chavez Street, CHP Officer Bert Diaz said. The car also had improper paper plates.

When the CHP tried to stop the car it continued driving on the freeway, reaching speeds of between 115 and 120 mph as it drove over  the Bay Bridge, Diaz said.

The car exited Interstate 580 in West Oakland and got onto San Pablo Avenue where it continued to drive at more than 80 mph before crashing on San Pablo at Adeline Street in Emeryville, authorities said.  It was not immediately known what the Hyundai crashed into.

The driver was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and for driving under the influence, Diaz said.  His name was not released.

Reports of a second suspect being arrested could not immediately be confirmed.
