Bake Off fans’ horror as Henry Bird is axed after disgusting Paul Hollywood with his pie showstopper
BAKE Off fans were left reeling tonight after fan favourite Henry Bird was axed from the competition after bungling a series of challenges.
The 20-year-old student lost his place in the tent after leaving Paul Hollywood disgusted with his towering pie, but took the defeat in his stride, saying simply: “It has been a pleasure, darling.”
Fans were less measured with one wailing: “Absolutely gutted Henry has gone. He was my absolute favourite and it won’t be the same without him .”
Another said: “Henry!!!! No. No please god reverse time!! ”
A third threatened to fight Paul Hollywood in the street after his stinging verdict on the lad’s showstopper.
Paul left fans terrified Henry was about to go when he tore his vertical pie to shreds, complaining: “It’s bone dry. All the moisture’s come out the hole in the top.”
He added: “It’s a shame. Do you know what it tastes like? Mince pie.”
Henry hopefully asked if the 53-year-old liked Christmas, but Paul replied: “Humbug. The idea’s there but not executed to the best of your ability.”
The baking overlord was more forgiving after Henry got his marching orders, saying: “I think he’s done a great job. I just think the other four deserved to be there more.”
Henry started Pastry Week strongly with an impressive crab, tomato and new potato tarte tatin but things began going wrong in the technical challenge.
