Letter: Here’s how climate change could be taught in all subjects

Re: “Climate change education heating up in California” (Eastbaytimes.com, Oct. 14):

I’m glad to see that California schools will be teaching about climate change as required by the Next Generation Science Standards. Greta Thunberg’s observation “You are failing us. But the young people are starting to understand your betrayal” is true and adults must act too.

I hope climate change will be covered in all subjects since its effects are so pervasive in our lives today. Economics — how subsidies are keeping alive a dinosaur industry that can no longer make money on its own merit. Math — the cost of addressing climate change vs. the cost to ignore it. Government — the solutions of regulation vs. fees on carbon vs. market forces but all of which are needed. English — write a letter to yourmembers of Congress.

The time for focusing on just the science is long past; it’s almost too late to discuss solutions too. We must act now.
