Adele teams up with Nicky Minaj to record song and video in one of music’s more unlikely collaborations
WHEN Adele said she was making a drum and bass record “to spite” people who thought her next album would be full of divorce-inspired ballads, I thought the idea was bonkers.
But the finished product might be closer to this than I expected, with the singer recording one of the most unlikely collaborations in music — after teaming up with Nicki Minaj.
The rapper has let slip that the she and Adele have made a song together and already shot a video, hinting Adele’s big return is imminent. Asked at a party in the US on Tuesday whether they had worked together, or were considering it, Nicki — who debuted a shocking red hairdo — said: “Yes and yes, yes and yes, woohoo!
“But Adele made me swear to secrecy that I’m not allowed to tell anyone that I’m working with her. And that we already shot a video. And it’s an epic song. Ahh.”
The British superstar, whose last album 25 was released in 2015, has expressed her love for Nicki’s music before by rapping her verse from Kanye West’s song Monster on Carpool Karaoke in 2016 and again at a party earlier this year.
But she is not known for her collaborations, having not released anything with another artist since 2009 when she teamed up with Jack Penate and Daniel Merriweather for songs.
After announcing her split from husband Simon Konecki in April, Adele reflected on her life in an emotional Instagram post where she joked about her new direction.
Signing off the message about learning to “truly love yourself”, she described her fans as a “bunch of f***ing savages,” and said her album would “be a drum n bass record to spite you.”
With the state of the country right now, something upbeat is exactly what we need.

SHE has tried in vain to live up to her Posh standards ever since her Spice Girls days – and that comes through in Victoria Beckham’s product prices too.
The singer-turned-fashion-designer has just launched a cosmetics range and is charging a hefty £30 for her new lip tint, which she says comes in a “just-bitten colour that punctuates your pout”.
