Breaking Bad star admits he enjoyed keeping fans in the dark about El Camino return with ‘flat-out lies’
JESSE Plemons admits he enjoyed telling “flat-out lies” about his return as Todd Alquist in the Breaking Bad sequel film El Camino.
Producers worked overtime to make sure production of the movie was kept secret and the flashback involving Todd was no different.
The actor says he didn’t expect to be asked back for the film with his character’s arc finished with Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) choking him to death.
But when he found out he was coming back, he couldn’t tell a soul, and so needed to lie to people who asked.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “The short version is I was just lying to people for months and months and months.
“It was very strange at first! But then I started to enjoy it. It was great to flat-out lie to fans.
“When people asked if I was in the movie, I would say, “Yeah, I wish!” But with something like this, I knew it would be a great secret to keep.
“I never expected Todd to return, and so the fans didn’t expect it, either.”
The character returns for an extended flashback sequence in the film, with Jesse and Todd going on a road trip.
Todd is a sociopathic character who kills kids and hoards spiders, until he his murdered by Jesse in season five.
El Camino follows the life of fugitive Jesse Pinkman after the events of Breaking Bad.
Bosses needed to make sure the Bryan Cranston cameo was kept secret from fans too.
