ALAMEDA — Six-month-old twins and their mother escaped injury Wednesday morning when an SUV that had seconds earlier been involved in a collision with another vehicle crashed into their home, authorities said.

The twins were taken to a hospital for evaluation but were later released. Their genders were not disclosed.

The frightening incident happened about  8 a.m. Wednesday when an SUV going northbound on Walnut Street collided with another vehicle going westbound on Lincoln Avenue, police Lt. Hosh Durani said.

The impact sent the SUV crashing into the living room area of a home in the 2200 block of Lincoln where the woman and twins were, he said.

Firefighters had to extricate them from the home.  The mother was evaluated at the scene before she went with her children to the hospital where they were examined as a precaution.

Neither driver involved in the original collision was injured, authorities said.

The cause of the collision is under investigation, Durani said.

It was not immediately known if the damage caused by the SUV crashing into the home would allow the family to return there Wednesday..
