Hladkovsky announces hunger strike in protest of his detention
President of the Bogdan corporation, ex-deputy secretary of the NSDC Oleh Hladkovsky, detained on Oct. 17 by employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) at Boryspil airport, calls his detention illegal and announces a hunger strike in protest “against the arbitrariness of law enforcement agencies,” the press service of the corporation said.
According to Hladkovsky, he had never had any restrictions on his foreign trips, no summons with calls for interrogation or for conducting investigative actions had been sent.
“I have always collaborated with NABU detectives, giving testimonies and the necessary explanations. Over the past six months after returning to the Bogdan corporation, I flew dozens of times abroad to participate in negotiations with business partners and always returned to Ukraine,” the press office quoted his statement.
The president of the automobile corporation called today’s detention “dirty PR” and emphasized the political motivation for “illegal prosecution, which has no other purpose than creating a certain image for TV.”
As reported, with reference to the press service of the NABU, Hladkovsky was detained at Boryspil airport on Oct. 17 “on suspicion of abuse of office.”
Earlier, an informed source in law enforcement agencies told the agency about the fact that Hladkovsky was detained by law enforcement officers when trying to fly out of Ukraine. However, the corporation reported that he was supposed to leave for the opening of the Bus world 2019 exhibition in Brussels, where he was officially invited by the organizers, and did not intend to leave Ukraine.
On March 4, Hladkovsky was dismissed as NSDC first deputy secretary by the president’s decree in order to ensure an objective investigation of the information that has received wide public and political resonance of the project Nashi Groshi Bihus Info.
He held the post of the first deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) until March of this year, and in July of this year he again headed the Bogdan Corporation, whose president he was from its inception in 2005 until his appointment to the civil service.
