A sailboat is blown ashore by strong winds in Gloucester, Massachusetts on Thursday (October 17).

A rapidly intensifying coastal storm known as a bomb cyclone has brought gusty winds to the Northeast and, according to one report, more than a half-million people in the region woke up without power today.
