[Men's Soccer] Bearcats Victorious in Senior Day Contest
The Brescia men's soccer team was victorious in a crucial River States Conference game. The Bearcats also celebrated Davis Mitchell's (SR, Spottsville, Ky.) career before the game in its Senior Day ceremony.
"Davis exemplifies what a student-athlete should be. His character and leadership on and off the field have stood out to me the most. He's a hard worker and a great teammate. I'm glad that I have been able to coach him in his final season at Brescia," said Head Coach Cameron Williams.
After a very competitive start to the game that saw neither team allow any opportunities to the other, the Bearcats picked up some momentum from an unassisted goal by Kyle Bleidt (JR, Cadiz, Ky.), giving Brescia a strong 1-0 lead.
Brescia continued to apply pressure, securing a 2-0 lead after Joao Benassi (SO, Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored off of an assist from Jackson Barber (SO, Daphne, Ala.). Sam Coxon (SO, Barns Green, England) sealed the win for the team, after scoring off of an assist from Ruben Burgos Rubio (SO, Madrid, Spain), securing a 3-0 win for the Bearcats.
"Every win that we pick up in conference is going to be huge down the stretch. Getting the win today was big time and it keeps us in the driver seat of our own destiny. We came out and did what we have been talking about all week and I'm proud of the guys for executing through the entire match," said Williams.
The men's soccer team will be back in action on the road on October 24 against RSC opponent Midway University at 2:00 p.m.
