Woe is me. The Dolphins can’t seem to catch a break and that includes a recent 17-16 loss to the Redskins, who hadn’t won a game before Sunday. Josh Rosen went 15 of 25 for 85 years and threw two interceptions before being benched in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick completed 12 of 18 passes for 132 yards and one touchdown and almost completed the comeback for Miami. Coach Brian Flores opted to go for two to win the game rather than force overtime, and the attempt failed. Miami’s offense was lackluster for yet another week. The quarterbacks were sacked five times, the running game was held to 84 yards, and the offense converted just three of 14 third-down opportunities. Rosen was announced as the starter against the Bills and he’ll face a tough test against one of the best defenses in the NFL.
The defense did a decent job keeping them in the game, but the Redskins’ offense isn’t exactly potent. Case Keenum wasn’t sacked or pressured and threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns, 100 yards and both scores to rookie Terry McLaurin. Adrian Peterson, the ageless wonder, rushed for 118 yards, nearly doubling his rushing total this season. Raekwon McMillan and Reshad Jones had nine and eight tackles respectively to lead the Dolphins’ defense.
Buffalo currently sits second in the AFC East standings behind only the Patriots. The Bills are 4-1 on the season and coming off of a bye week. Two weeks ago, they beat the Titans 14-7 on the road. Josh Allen was 23 of 32 for 219 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Allen was sacked four times and will have to have better pass protection on Sunday. Frank Gore compiled 60 yards on the ground with John Brown hauling in five catches for 75 yards. Both players lead Buffalo in rushing and receiving this season.
Holding opponents to an average of 275 YPG, the defense is currently ranked as third-best in the NFL. They are also holding teams to an average of 87.8 YPG on the ground, which ranks seventh in the NFL. Against Tennessee, they exploited a weak Titan offensive line and sacked Marcus Mariota five times, while limiting the offense to just 252 total yards. Jordan Phillips paved the way with three sacks and three tackles while Lorenzo Alexander added six tackles and one sack. Rookie Ed Oliver made his impact felt with six tackles in the game.
