JURGEN KLOPP was left fuming with match officials after VAR failed to overturn Marcus Rashford’s opener at Old Trafford.
The Manchester United striker broke the deadlock in the 36th minute after he expertly tapped home from close range after being picked out by a beautiful Daniel James delivery.
Liverpool players instantly surrounded referee Martin Atkinson as they appealed for a free-kick on Divock Origi in the build-up to Rashford’s goal.
Replays showed that the Reds forward was caught by Victor Lindelof, and even though the incident went to VAR, United’s opener stood.
Klopp was raging with the fourth official on the sidelines, with the German left in disbelief how the goal was allowed to stand.
His opinion was shared by Gary Neville and Graeme Souness, as the two Sky Sports pundits both agreed that the visitors can feel hard done by.
VAR-CICAL
United legend Neville said: “I’ve had this problem with VAR all season, I’ve said the bar is too high. It’s a foul, but Man Utd don’t care and Jurgen Klopp is absolutely livid.
“I think he’ll also be livid with his team because they haven’t started well and they’ve somewhat got what they deserved in the sense that Man Utd have been better, they’ve been faster, but there is controversy.”
Souness added: “I think Lindelof does catch him. He catches the inside of his left leg and anyway you look at that, it’s a foul.
“There’s definitely contact with Origi and it’s a foul, he’s gone through the back of someone, regardless of his touch.”
It is the second time this weekend that VAR officials have failed to overturn the referees decision, with Watford’s clash against Tottenham marred by controversy after Gerard Deulofeu was failed to be awarded a penalty.

Liverpool were then on the wrong end of another VAR decision just before the break after Sadio Mane had his goal correctly chalked off for a handball.
Speaking of Mane’s disallowed strike, Jamie Carragher said: “It is VAR at its best. That would be given before and now it’s handball – it shouldn’t be a goal.
“We can have talking points on VAR and disagree with certain things, especially on that first goal, but that was the reason VAR has been bought in.”
