49ers, Washington look miserable in DC downpour
There’s a reason baseball has rain delays.
The 49ers are playing through what appears to be a total downpour in Washington D.C., and it’s created some ugly football so far in the first half, which ended scoreless.
HALFTIME REPORT: Highs and lows from the first half of 49ers-Washington
Each team has missed a field goal (badly), and Jimmy Garoppolo has resorted to running the ball rather than trying to get a grip and complete a pass. He’s 3-of-10 in the first half for 10 yards, and he has 20 yards rushing on four carries.

With moves like that, it’s no wonder he is San Francisco’s second-leading rusher in the first half.
The Niners’ field goal attempt came after Garoppolo simply dropped the wet ball while he was standing in the pocket.

The teams combined for just 186 yards in the first half.
According to weather.com, the rain will continue through til sundown, so the second half will likely be a slog, too. The good news is that the rain will turn to showers around 5 p.m., but the bad news is that’ll likely be after the game is done.
If the Niners can find their footing on the FedEx Field turf enough to register a touchdown in the second half, they’ll have a strong chance to come out with a win. The real winners, though, are the bettors who put some coin on the under.
