‘The same problems’: Carragher reacts to Liverpool FC’s 1-1 draw at Man United
Jamie Carragher has claimed that Liverpool FC suffered from a “mental block” during their 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds headed into the game looking to maintain their 100 per cent start to the new season after having won all eight of their opening Premier League games.
However, Manchester United were superior for most of the clash as Liverpool FC failed to click into gear during the clash with their arch rivals.
Marcus Rashford fired the home side ahead in the 36th minute with a smart finish.
Liverpool FC thought they had equalised shortly before half-time when Sadio Mane slotted home, only for the goal to be ruled out by VAR for a handball in the build-up.
Substitute Adam Lallana netted an equaliser in the 85th minute when he tapped home from close range after being left unmarked at the far post.
Despite rescuing a point, it wasn’t the best performance from Liverpool FC at Old Trafford on Sunday.
And former Liverpool FC star Carragher felt that Liverpool FC’s problems on Sunday were mainly psychological.
“It’s unbelievable,” Carragher said during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game.
“I speak about Everton having a mental block at times when they come to Anfield. Watching Liverpool here, it’s almost like there’s a mental block. This is not the same team we’ve been watching.
“Yes, I said before the game that United away is a tough game and you can lose it.
“But it’s the actual performance rather than the scoreline which is the biggest worry for Liverpool.
“Every time they come to Old Trafford, it’s the same problems.”
After the final whistle, Carragher added: “I think Liverpool will be delighted.
“It’s very difficult for Liverpool or any team to come to Old Trafford. It’s a derby game and Liverpool’s record is not great here.
“To get out with one point from this game considering how they performed, I think Jurgen Klopp will be really pleased.”
Next up for Liverpool FC is a trip to Genk in the Champions League on Wednesday night, before they host Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.
The result left Liverpool FC six points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table.
