Hallowscreen II.........The video competition final

0
Last weekend we held the 2nd SOTP film "festival" close to the River Idle in North Notts.

The idea was to have a couple of days paddling and to screen the films on the Saturday night...…...well that was my idea, the weather however, had a completely different plan.
It rained...…..not just a little bit...…...it rained a lot...……..an awful lot. So much rain in fact that it meant paddling on the Idle was off. Not just "no river paddling" however, by Saturday dinner time the campsite was becoming so waterlogged with a chance of the river breaking it's banks we had to abandon ship.
So this is not really a blogg but a thanks and an apology to those who braved the elements.
It wasn't a complete washout, on the Friday night we had a really enjoyable sing along accompanied by Cherry on the fiddle, Mal & Ken on the Guitar and Jon on the Uke.
On the Saturday morning we watched the England/New Zealand semi final (they was robbedSMwhistle) and we were fed by Ken who produced some fantastic scrambled eggs, Chai Tea and bacon butties.
And after we watched some fantastic canoe films. The audience selected the winners, I had planned to use a clapometer but during calibration it became apparent everyone would have scored the same. So they voted instead.
The winning 4 were as follows

The winner was Broadsman ……..Scream if you want to go faster. Congratulations Robin an excellent joyful film that made everyone smile

2nd was Bobt with To canoe is to live...…. Very moving, haunting soundtrack and a noble message.
3rd was Son Goku with Assynt 2019...........Well filmed, beautifully edited and great scenery
4th was Squeeler with Autumn on the Avon...…….Technically brilliant, interesting with a suitable voiceover

to be honest any of the top four would have been worthy winners. Congratulations to all.

And that was it, the water was still rising, time to leave. Here Ken saved our bacon, his Defender managed to pull the two wheel drive vehicles off the field, thanks Ken!
Mal very graciously offered to put people up at his parents and some stayed on to paddle Chesterfield canal on a Lovely Sunny day. Me and Jon came back on the Sunday to take down the festival tent which miraculously had largely dried out.

So many thanks are due.
Thank you to Jax and Di our hosts for preparing the field (and an alternative) for our stay, they did us proud
Thank you to Jon and Juliet, who were magnificent as usual in helping to put it all together.
Thank you to those who entered the competition.
Thank you to the academy who selected great films for the final.
Thank you to Ken for the food and the rescue.
Thank you to Mal for providing the Sunday alternative.
And finally, thank you to the poor brave souls who turned up and endured it all, your support was very much appreciated.

I have struggled this year to get enough films for the competition and up until this weekend I was going to call it a day running the competition, but honestly, I had so much fun despite the weather, that I am determined this will not be the last SOTP Video competition........it will return!......but now thinking A Midsummers Night Screen rather that a Hallowscreen.
