Brits fork out up to four times more than Europeans for a pint of beer, research finds
BRITS pay up to four times more for a pint of lager than some of our European cousins.
The average cost in the UK is £4, while those in the Czech Republic pay pay a quid.
Drinkers in Portugal and Hungary pay half as much as Brits at an average of £2, while the Germans and Austrians pay £3, analysis by Ocean Finance shows.
And those wanting a pint in London will have to fork out an average of £5.43.
Sarah Neate, from Ocean Finance, said: “Our study shows the average pint in the UK is among the most expensive in Europe.”
The price clash comes as research by St Austell Brewery found 40 per cent of British boozers are unhappy at the cost of a pint.
Beer duty drives up the price in the UK with 54p of the cost of a five per cent pint going to the taxman — compared to 5p in Germany.
