Instagram famous raccoon Pumpkin has died at age four as legions of fans mourn
PUMPKIN the Instagram famous raccoon has passed away at the age of four.
Her owner, Laura Young, has confirmed the news on the platform.
Young revealed to her 1.4million Instagram followers that her beloved pet died two weeks ago.
She wrote: “It is with a heavy and broken heart that I share with you the news that our beloved Pumpkin has passed away.
“Two weeks ago today we had to say goodbye to our beautiful girl. I am so completely ruined that I can barely see what I am typing as there are so many tears pouring down my face.
“My husband said it perfectly, she is now forever dreaming of avocados, eggs, and sips of my leftover tea.”
Pumpkin’s passing came as a shock to her owners.
The raccoon had appeared active and healthy on the Instagram account in recent months.
Young found Pumpkin when she was just a newborn.
Pumpkin was said to have been abandoned by her mother and nursing a broken leg underneath a tree in the Bahamas.
Young decided to take Pumpkin in and care for her because there wasn’t an animal rescue nearby.
In 2014, Pumpkin became and Instagram star and was often pictured eating treats and going on adventures.
Pumpkin also raised money and attention for charity after Hurricane Dorian struck the Abaco Islands and Grand Bahama in September.
Young thanked Pumpkin for helping her through hard times and for being by her side for the past few years.
She added: “I will continue to keep this account. The format will change but It is important to me to honour our girl Pumps and use this incredible platform for something good.
“I know how much you all loved and adored her. She is going to be one missed raccoon.”
Wild raccoons are estimated to live between two and three years in the wild.
