LAKE BALBOA – With the L.A. City Section Open Division playoffs looming, Birmingham defeated Granada Hills 42-0 to capture the West Valley League title Friday night at home.

“I think it’s great to get the win and I’m very happy we were able to give up zero points in league,” Birmingham coach Jim Rose said.

Birmingham quarterback Jackson Dadich was 17-of-26 passing for 262 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for a touchdown.

When asked about the Open Division playoffs with defending champs Narbonne banned from postseason play, Dadich said, “Let’s go win this title.”

Birmingham’s defense starred the night shutting out the Highlanders (5-4, 3-1) and only allowing 108 yards of total offense.

Patriots running back Jonino Liangco had eight carries for 88 yards and one touchdown. Liangco left the game at the end of the first half with an ankle injury, but Rose said he should be ready to go for the playoffs.

Mason White also starred for Birmingham with five catches for 53 yards and an interception on one of Granada Hill’s two passing attempts in the game.

The Highlanders and their double wing struggled to get going with running backs Justin Tapia and Samuel Ahn only combining for 73 rushing yards despite 30 combined carries.

“We lost to a better team,” Granada Hills coach Bucky Brooks said. “Birmingham brought its ‘A game’ and we wish them well.”

Birmingham finishes the regular season with a record of 5-4 and will now be one of the favorites to make a run at the Open Division title. Granada Hills finishes their season 5-4 and will now enter into the City Division I playoffs, which are scheduled to be released Saturday.
