The New Science of Novae
On 8 November 2016, Kwan-Lok Li of Michigan State University discovered a new bright source of rays in the constellation Sagittarius using the Large Area Telescope (LAT) aboard the Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope. Li and his colleagues had been inspecting the LAT data from that part of the sky for any rays from a nova, in which the light from a previously obscure star suddenly becomes much brighter.
