[Volleyball] SSU falls to Life in straight sets, 3-0
The volleyball program at Shawnee State University obtained double-digit digs from four different players, nabbed a dozen assists from Maddie Payne, and obtained a eight-kill effort from Nashail Shelby against Life (Ga.) on Saturday afternoon, but the Bears couldn't muster a victory in Mid-South Conference action as SSU fell to the Running Eagles in straight-sets, 3-0 (23-25, 17-25, 14-25) in a road contest that was held in Marietta, Ga.
In its tight first-set setback, Shawnee State played right with Life as the Bears, in their scant 25-23 loss, hit .156 compared to the Running Eagles' .185 as a unit. Over the final pair of frames, however, SSU, who collected 13 kills as a unit in the first set of action, were held to 13 spikes combined over the final pair of sets while the Running Eagles posted 14 kills in the second frame and 13 spikes in the third set of action. Life also edged SSU in the digs and blocks department by winning those battles by 67-59 and 9-2 margins, respectively.
