Re: “San Jose moves to boost electric use in homes, mayor touts electric cars as PG&E power shutdown continues” (Mercurynews.com, Oct. 29):

California’s feast or starve rain cycle isn’t necessarily going to help PG&E keep the power on. San Jose is clearly a leader in electric vehicle use, so it is no surprise that the city is suggesting the installation of electric stoves in newer homes.

However, PG&E’s reluctance to maintain its power lines suggest that the city of San Jose needs to take action and partner with independent power companies before tragedy strikes the Silicon Valley.

Wildfires can cause serious harm to the residents and business owners of San Jose. While the project may take decades and millions of dollars’ worth of funds, it’s best to undertake the project as soon as possible, continue being a leader in the reduction of greenhouse emissions and protect the livelihood of the most talented workforce in America.
