Which Netflix Show Should You Binge, Based On Your D&D Alignment?
Though the Dungeons & Dragons alignment chart was created just to help players sort their characters, many people realized that the chart is a brilliant way to sort themselves and their friends; as well as figuring out how these charts can affect their daily lives.
How much do these alignments affect us? Can they predict our actions? Could they predict which media people will be drawn to? Today, we will explore that idea by comparing several popular Netflix originals and the alignments under which they fall.
9 Lawful Good: The Magic School Bus Rides Again
The lawful good alignment follows the belief that we, as humans, must strive to do good; as it is our true purpose. It also maintains that the laws of the nation are to be upheld, no matter what, as they are in everyone's best interest.
The Magic School Bus Rides Again is the paragon of this idea as the children must adhere to the laws of whichever land/area they travel to. Even if it causes them to adjust their normal behaviour or goes against what they think is right.
8 Neutral Good: Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life
Those who fall under the neutral good type believe that one should be good for the sake of being good. Though one may argue that the Gilmore girls can be rather selfish at times, one cannot disagree with the fact that they never need to justify their kindness. Even if their kindness comes as them calling each other out, they do so because it is the right/kind/good thing to do.
They do not help each other out because of their own moral code, their goals, or the law. They help each other out because it is the right thing to do. Because people do not need a reason to help each other out.
7 Chaotic Good: One Day At A Time
If someone is chaotic good, it means that they believe that we should strive to do what is right even if the law is against you. Though we would all agree that the main characters in One Day At A Time are good people, it is important to note that they did break the law while doing good.
But we will not hold that against them (under this alignment type) because we understand that the moral good outweighs the legal nature of the solution. The law does not always have the individual's best interest in mind and one can trust the Alvarez family to put the good of the people first.
6 Lawful Neutral: Orange Is The New Black
Though the show takes place in a women's prison, this show does explore the different sides of the law and the reasons for people justifying their choices to break it. Lawful neutral types believe that one requires a moral code in order to thrive in society; however, they also believe that the laws that govern us might not be the correct choice. Though this may sound similar to chaotic good, it is important to note that the difference between these two is that chaotic good operates on the idea that society has the same moral code whereas it is rather individualized in lawful neutral.
In Orange is The New Black, we follow several characters who operate on their own moral code. Some of the characters who follow the law to the letter are the villains of the show, while some of the women who, though incarcerated, operate on their own moral code are the good guys that we root for.
5 True Neutral: Riverdale
This show was a bit tricky to sort due to the varying characters, plots, and themes. But the intertwined nature of the good and evil elements in this show makes it a perfect fit for the true neutral category.
True neutral is neither good nor bad. It can be good, if it suits them. Or it can be very bad, if the situation calls for it. True neutrals believe that each and every situation should be viewed as its own thing and one should approach it based upon those in-the-moment judgments rather than on their own moral code. Archie and the gang can bounce back and forth between moral lines when the situation calls for it and doing so makes them neither morally correct or incorrect.
4 Chaotic Neutral: Big Mouth
Is there any show as chaotic as Big Mouth? This show could have fallen under several different categories, but we chose to place it under neutral due to the fact that each character has both positive and negative qualities.
Each character can be a wonderfully loyal friend and a totally selfish jerk, when it suits them. Chaotic neutrals value personal freedom above all else. In Big Mouth, though the characters want to do the right thing, they will do anything but if it threatens this goal.
3 Lawful Evil: Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is perfect for those who fall under the lawful evil alignment. This alignment is centred around the idea of manipulating laws and loopholes to suit one's individual needs and goals.
Sabrina Spellman is notorious for doing just this. Throughout the show, she is told that she has to do something and that there is no other option. And her stubborn nature prompts her to find ridiculous and wonderful loopholes in the established laws which allows her to not only avoid punishment but also get exactly what she wants in the end. Whether it is keeping her magical powers without giving herself up to The Dark Lord or bringing someone back from the dead without exchanging a life for a life, if there is a loophole one can guarantee Sabrina will find and exploit it.
2 Neutral Evil: The End of The Fxxxing World
Neutral evil is the type of evil that one might liken to the behaviour of a naughty child. They aren't really trying to cause mayhem; however, they do like a little bit of chaos with their morning coffee. Not long-lasting devastation, just enough to make things interesting. The main characters in The End of The Fxxxing World are bored with their monotonous suburban lives and seek a bit of adventure by taking off, cussing out diner employees, and living on their own.
The people that they encounter on the road are rather evil people which forces the leads to realize that they were not amoral individuals searching for chaos and to feed their dark impulses, but rather bored teenagers looking for cheap thrills.
1 Chaotic Evil: Insatiable
Chaotic evil means that a person prioritizes their goal above all else and that they do not care who was harmed in the process of achieving this. In fact, they might in revel in the pain that they cause along the way. They see hurting other people as a fun little bonus which can be added to the joy of achieving their goals. Which is why Insatiable is the perfect show for those who fall under this alignment.
The main characters in this show pursue their goals with a lethal single-minded determination and relish in the misery that this causes those around them as they believe that they are nothing more than pawns who deserve to be cast aside and punished due to the pain that the main characters have experienced in their lives.
