Man charged with murdering young mum in town centre ‘altercation’

A man has been charged with murder and assault following the death of a young mum.

Lloyd Birkby, 26, stands accused of killing Levi Ogden, also 26, who was found unconscious in Halifax town centre in the early hours of Sunday.

He has also been charged with assaulting other people during an ‘altercation’.

Witnesses told how Levi, from Elland, was given CPR at the scene and taken to hospital but could not be saved.

She had posted pictures with Lloyd Birkby six hours earlier, with the caption saying ‘Date night, first one in forever.’

A JustGiving page set up to cover funeral costs and help her two young children has now reached £3,406 from 210 supporters.

It reads: ‘With the blessing of Clare and family, I have set up this page so our amazing community can come together once again and raise some much needed funds for our beautiful friend!

‘As many of you are aware Levi Ogden was taken from us leaving her two beautiful children behind so if we can raise enough to pay for the funeral and have a little left over for the babies it will help Clare a great deal.’

One of those who donated wrote: ‘RIP Levi Hope you get a lovely send off. Life can be so cruel. Thinking of your babies losing their mummy and all your family.’

Another said: ‘I didn’t know Levi personally, but her son is in the same class as my little boy so it’s really hit home. I saw her on the school run daily, and my heart is broken for her beautiful babies. RIP Levi.X’

Birkby, of Jubilee Road, Halifax, will appear before Bradford Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
