A 61-year-old man was killed in an industrial accident last week in a South Loop rail yard owned by Amtrak.
The fatal accident happened about 7:20 p.m. Nov. 9 in the 1600 block of South Lumber Street, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Officers responded to an injured person in a train depot at that location and found a critically injured man, Chicago police said.
Paramedics took him to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced at 8:47 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office.
Amtrak police were investigating the death, Chicago police said.
Spokespeople for Amtrak did not reply to messages Monday seeking comment. It was unclear if the man who died worked for Amtrak.
The U.S. Department of Labor and National Transportation and Safety Board did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
A spokesman for Metra, which also operates trains in the rail yard, said he was unaware of the incident.
