0

WICHITA, Kan. – Fresh off their dominating 6-0 victory over the Ottawa University Braves in the KCAC tournament quarterfinals, the Friends University Falcons have captured both conference player of the week honors.  Senior goalkeeper Lauren Ferguson is the KCAC Defensive Player of the Week, while junior forward Paige Achey was chosen as the league's top offensive player.

"Paige and Lauren both played at a high level Saturday," Friends head coach Brent Hobson said. "They both have the ability to win us games by making big plays in key moments of the game."

Ferguson was outstanding again at goalkeeper in the Falcons' two matches this past week.

The Wentzville, Mo. native made six saves in a 3-1 victory over Southwestern College in the regular season finale before making eight crucial stops in the conference tourney victory.

Leaping and diving both directions, Ferguson preserved the seventh shutout of the season and 22nd of her star-studded career.

Ferguson's seven shutouts are now tied for first in the KCAC and she is second in the league in goals-against-average (1.16).

On the offensive side, Achey exploded this past week for the Falcons.

Achey started the week with two of the Falcon's three goals in the win over Southwestern last Tuesday (Nov. 5).

A Wichita native, Achey saved the best for last, producing a hat trick to power the Falcons over Ottawa and into the KCAC tournament semifinal round.

Achey is currently top five in the KCAC in both points per game (1.50) and goals per game (0.61) this season.

The dominant duo will lead the second-seeded Falcons against third-seeded Kansas Wesleyan University tomorrow night (Nov. 13) starting at 7:30 pm at Stryker Complex in Wichita.
