Strictly’s Oti Mabuse admits she ‘feared for her life’ with dangerous lift after flying across the room in rehearsals
OTI Mabuse admits she “feared for her life” after flying across the room in rehearsals when her Strictly partner Kelvin Fletcher tried out a dangerous lift.
The professional dancer revealed they had to simplify the risky move when it went wrong backstage.
On BBC Two’s It Takes Two, Oti nervously laughed as she explained why she was left scared by the demanding trick.
Host Zoe Ball asked: “Were you in fear of your life?” to which Oti replied: “I was! Every week Kelvin starts slow, but then he progresses incredibly.
“So when we were doing it, we thought ‘let’s both have our hands up’. On Wednesday, he gets faster and I almost fly across the room.
“I was like, ‘oh my god, don’t let me go!’
“I love he’s so passionate and just wants to improve, but that was scary.”
She added: “At this point in the competition we’re all trying to push each other.
“When you get lifts, you want to make them scary and impossible. But after I thought, ‘what was I thinking?'”
Last month Oti revealed she had a rant backstage during the Halloween show when she was caught on camera “going off” about something.
The image on Oti’s stories shows her looking angry in her Halloween costume next to fellow contestant Michelle Visage.

Oti captioned the image: “When you’re going OFF on a rant and your friend doesn’t warn you about the cameras lurking @michellevisage look at you posing.”
The dancer was initially partnered up with Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing before he was forced to bow out of the competition before the live shows after an injury.
She got last-minute sign-up Kelvin Fletcher who has been a fan favourite ever since.
