The best theater exists as a living laboratory, not a vending machine stocked with mass market expectations. Sure, we like our drawing room comedies and our Lion Kings, but theatergoers face their greatest challenge — and reward — when a director chooses to think outside the box. Or at least fold it into a shape we've not quite seen before.
